International Folklore Festival has been an inseparable part of Brno Summer Folk Celebrations for many years. The original meeting of local ensembles has gradually changed into a real festival with a rich programme and international attendance.

This year, the festival is organized by Brno Association of Folklore Friends, regular member of Czech National Section CIOFF® and member of IOV Czech Republic. The co-organizer is The Folklore Association of the Czech Republic.

Brno Association of Folklore Friends

Brno Association of Folklore Friends was founded on 10th October 1989 by ten most active folklore ensembles in Brno and its foundation was initiated by Mgr. Jan Miroslav Krist. The main idea of this citizen-action public was to team up and establish a new tradition of organizing a folklore festival in Brno.

From the history of the Festival

International Folklore Festival Brno has been organized in Moravian capital since 1990, namely once a year always at the turn of August and September.

Republic

In 1995 the IFF started to apply for listing among the festivals CIOFF® and after meeting the demanding criteria, in 1996 it became a regular member of the Czech National Section CIOFF®. In 2002 the Brno Festival was awarded a status IOV and it became a member of the Czech organization IOV.

Every year, the concerts of the International Folklore Festival Brno are given by about one thousand performers from the Czech Republic and about two hundred performers from all possible corners of the world. New friendships are started among ensembles and individuals, reciprocal stays of ensembles are organized.

Thus, Brno Festival started cooperation with a festival in Polish Legnica a few years ago, in 2001 with the Festival FEMAN in Slovakian Košice and in 2007 with a festival in Ukrainian Luck.
